Qualupalik was designed and made for Kingston University ‘Fashion Monster’ project. Using only found materials the piece was created from coat hangers woven with fabric leftovers, discarded knitwear, netting and plastic.

 

Qualupalik herself is based from an Inuit folk tale of a quite monstrous aquatic creature with scaled webbed feet with protruding claws made to hunt with Scaly bumpy skin and fins. We chose this mythical creature as a representation of human waste and pollution, to repurpose and create something haunting to capture consumer attention.
